Background First Fruits Farm is a non-profit, Christian ministry dedicated to providing fresh, nutritious food for the hungry through volunteer service and community partnerships.

As the Mid-Atlantic's largest non-profit producer of vegetables for charity, the Farm is also the flagship member of the Maryland Food Bank's Farm to Food Bank program.
Since 2004, the Farm has produced and distributed more than 20 million pounds of fresh food to food banks, soup kitchens, shelters, pantries, churches, schools with the help of over 10,000 volunteers annually.
It partners with organizations of all kinds, including schools, providing hands-on learning experiences in STEM, health, nutrition, and life sciences.
Built upon and motivated by Christian faith and values, First Fruits Farm is continually growing to meet the needs of the food insecure.
The phrase 'First Fruits' is a biblical reference that encourages sharing the highest quality foods one has to offer their community.
The First Fruits Farm 2022 budget projects revenues of around $1 million, and expenses of approximately the same.
Through the First Fruits Farm Foundation, last year the Farm launched a $14 million capital and endowment fundraising campaign.
It currently holds approximately $3 million in its endowment fund.
Job Description The Chief Operating Officer is First Fruits Farm's primary business operations staff person.
The position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for a wide range of duties that support the operations and programs of the board of directors, finances, human resources, IT, volunteers, and general administration of the Farm.
The COO is responsible for reaching the short-term and long-term goals as determined by the First Fruits Farm Executive Director and the Board of Directors of First Fruits Farm.
The COO directly supervises the Director of Farm Operations and the Director of Education and Programs.
Primary Duties Farm Operations and Plans.
Participates in, creates, and executes, along with the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and other members of the senior management team, the strategic plans, structure, and processes necessary to manage the organization's current activities and its projected growth.
Directly supervises Director of Farm Operations and Director of Education and Programs.
Responsible for developing and managing Farm budgets, production plans, and other operations plans as may be required.
Works with management to maintain a sound corporate organization and to establish policies that ensure adequate management development and provide for capable management cross training.
Using quantifiable metrics and management expertise, performs departmental/programmatic audits to determine cost/benefit as well as demand and service capability.
Establishes operating policies consistent with the Executive Director's broad policies and objectives and ensures their execution.
Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations Board and Committee Support.
Outline and schedule all board and committee meetings each year.

Prepare agendas and coordinate the development, assembly, and distribution of board and committee meeting materials, including trustee trainings.

Attend all board and committee meetings and take official meeting minutes.

Maintain records and historical documentation for board and committees.

Coordinate the development of committee reports by committee chairs each year.
Financial, Human Resources, and IT Administration.
Works closely with Farm staff and outside bookkeeper to record, process, and coordinate documentation for all First Fruits Farm and Frist Fruits Farm Foundation bills and checks.

Working closely with the Farm's outside bookkeeper and Treasurer, forecast and maintain proper balances in the Farm and Foundation's bank accounts.

Gather all requested documentation for auditors each year.

Work with the bookkeeper and Executive Director to prepare an annual budget for review by the Treasurer and Board Chair.

Serve as the primary liaison with the Farm's bookkeeper and insurance brokers and after the Treasurer, the secondary liaison with the Farm's and Foundation's investment consultants, tax advisor, and auditor.

Responsible for Farm information technology implementation and maintenance, and data security.
Responsible for risk assessment and mitigation via internal policy setting and evaluation of insurance coverage needs Office Operations.
Manage inventory and ordering for all office supplies, equipment rental, postage meter, and food services when required.
Supervise and coordinate building maintenance and office cleaning.
Create, edit, and distribute correspondence as needed Special Projects.
Provide administrative support to the Executive Director.
Support the Executive Director in development and fundraising as requested from time to time.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the First Fruits Farm Executive Director Qualifications.

Strong track record of Christian servant leadership.
Bachelor's Degree required, Masters or other advanced degree preferred.
Demonstrated record of excellence in a professional setting.
Successful record of day-to-day management of staff and complex operations.
Experience with business management and accounting software, technology, processes, and financial statement preparation.
Experience developing and managing a budget in excess of $1 million.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and an outstanding ability to lead and manage a team of professionals from different cultures, mindsets, and areas of expertise.
Display strong organizational and planning skills and an orientation to detail.
Able to manage/resolve conflicts arising in different dimensions.
Experience working with a board of directors and in shepherding the talents of a complex group of volunteers and other friends of the organization with different priorities and agendas.
Demonstrate self-confidence, authority, and enthusiasm.
Superior writing and communication skills that are effective with a wide range of audiences.
Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, assess options, draw conclusions, and make recommendations and exercise considerable initiative and judgment.
Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check.
Conditions include working irregular and/or weekend hours.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
